How do Grannies enjoy themselves

This weekend I spent some time with some dear friends who made me very welcome. The wife is almost exactly the same age as me.  Let me tell you how we spent the weekend.  We had dinner and a quiet evening in the first evening.  The next day we went around the town looking in the many charity shops. If you have read my blog recently you will not be surprised at that!! I found a warm moss green cardigan, a purple hand bag, a furry hat with ear pieces and ties under the chin, that was only 50p. Then I found a pale furry hat, one of those that is a band with no middle.  We did have fun.  My friend bought me a book of crochet shawls, in very good condition.  This kind of book is the sort of thing people buy because the pictures are all so gorgeous, but then realize they can't actually make them!  However I will make some of them, having had experience previously.  From another time I own two folders packed with exciting crochet patterns.  It was a series where a part was brought out every week for people to purchase.  I don't recommend those publications, they usually end up being very expensive. My friend found a top, a skirt and a sparkly, grey cardigan.  We were very pleased with ourselves. I also bought a new hot water bottle.  When my electric blanket stopped working I reverted to a hot water bottle.  It is quite old so I am afraid it might leak, hence the decision to buy a new one.  There was one priced £13.99 but I went for one at £7.99.
In the evening we went out for a Christmas dinner, very nice and then returned home to catch up on Strictly. That kept us up late. You would think I would have gone out like a light, but no at 2 a.m. I had my earphones in on my phone working at Russian on the Memrise app.  I always make a point of enjoying insomnia.  It beats tossing and turning which gets you nowhere.

In the morning there was a market in the square just outside the flats. The best thing was seeing birds of prey. My friend held an owl and had pictures taken to prove it. I took photos of the birds.I would post a photo but technology has defeated me tonight.  I plugged in my camera and the PC insisted I had no new photos.  Maybe I will post one on Facebook.

Denial Over Corona Virus

When something very nasty comes our way we can only take in some much of the horror of the situation and then our minds protect us by putting us into a state of denial.  It's all very well sitting cozy in the middle of a storm, but by doing that you can put others at risk.  It is tempting to think that the corona virus situation is not real and won't touch you and your family, to think that somehow the heads of state who appeared so lately to be at loggerheads are in fact manufacturing the whole thing for their own purposes.  Just see how the mind wants to divert us from the awful truth. Do you realize we could be on the point of the total collapse of civilization? That's why people panic buy because inside they realize food production and distribution could break down.  Of course the little store they have been able to stash away will not last long. Deny us our food and we turn into much nastier human beings, well no that's the way we always were but this brings out...

The Cull

The gamekeeper looked over the moorland with a keen eye at the herd of deer grazing happily.   Of course he was not their owner, he had gone on a long journey, but he had been gone so long that the gamekeeper, whose name was Godred   Selfishman, had for some time come to see himself as the owner of the deer and as the best person to fashion the herd according to his own desire. He had forgotten that the owner had a special affinity with each individual deer.   He knew them all by name and they would come to him when he called. They were precious each one and woe betide anyone who would hurt any of his deer. Once Godred had known all this but over the years he had forgotten. He looked at the herd in the valley eating grass and flicking their ears.   They were content, unsuspecting. He had told the neighbouring farmers, “There are too many deer; they are eating your crops.” Unlike most farmers these did not think for themselves, they did not remember that the...

Is Mary the Mother of God?

This is a very tricky subject because I know I will upset many people by tackling it.  First let me say that everything I say to you is based only on what the Bible says.  I do believe that Mary was the virgin mother of Jesus and that Jesus was fully man and fully God.  Many people say that Mary was sinless but I can show you that she herself denied this.  She said,"My soul doth magnify the Lord and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Saviour" Read this in Luke (от Лука) 1:46,47. A sinless person does not need a Saviour, but Mary said that God was her Saviour. I have often said that if it was possible to be miserable in heaven then Mary would be the most sad person there, because people often honour her above Jesus.  She would be crying everyday at this . Jesus was her son but also her Saviour. I have many things to add to this but we will take it a step at a time.  Ask the Holy Spirit to help you as you consider these things.  Ask Him to lead you into t...
