Our world up to now has been characterized by selfishness. Everyone wants a huge house and a fast fuel guzzling car, with holidays abroad two or three times a year, needing countless plane journeys. Now I feel a little bit smug because I had never been abroad until 2017 and then again in 2018. I also live in a tiny bungalow, a one storey house. I save the water from my shower and washing up of dishes to water my little garden. Back in January I sold my car because I was not enjoying driving and hated all the money needed to keep it going. What a good thing I sold it then, no one would buy it from me now!! What makes people want things and then the newest version? I think it is because they have a big hole in their lives that they are trying to fill, but things can never satisfy that hole because it is actually a God-shaped hole and only God can fill it and give the necessary satisfaction. You see in one respect I am just like all the other people wanting things. I love gadgets. I have a P.C. and a laptop and a smart phone and a tablet and a sewing machine and a dictaphone. Four of those things I use very rarely. I must have fallen prey to advertizing, just like everyone else. But there is a difference for me. I don't expect these things to give me satisfaction, because I find my true satisfaction in Jesus.
So if the borders close and we are restricted in the use of cars I'm not going to get in a state about it. Modern life will let me down but Jesus never will.
So life could look life this:- working from home will continue for many people; groceries always delivered; no foreign holidays, or maybe rationed. Those three things limit the use of transport. So maybe you can't own a car but in certain circumstances you can hire one.Maybe for that holiday in Britain. As parents are working from home they can also educate their own children, no need for expensive school buildings. Well I'm sure you get the picture and can add ideas of your own. Perhaps you would like to put them in the comments.
